It’s safe to assume the number one question on the mind of a homeowner considering a remodel is “How much is it gonna cost?”
If you’re like many, you’ve likely seen the wonders of remodeling played out on reality TV. They make it look so easy. The houses are so darn cute. Then you look around your home and start to envision it coming together like the 3D models in the last episode. Sure they provide their costs and durations on these shows. You wish it was true, but deep down you know you can’t trust most of what you see on TV. The quest for the cost is on.
Most people turn to the web for answers. The cost, at first glance, can seem to be all over the ballpark. If you search online long enough you’ll eventually find a national platform to provide a “recommended cost” that you hope your project will fetch. There’s a lot of information out there but more than likely it’s not gonna be very accurate in predicting the complexity involved with a remodel in your neighborhood.
So next you reach out to some local contractors. The ensuing parade of contractors can also prove extremely frustrating. What good are 3-5 bids if the range varies (it typically does) wider than a harvest moon on an autumn skyline. It’s hard to determine which numbers represent the real cost of the project. The low cost could in fact be a lowball that’ll skyrocket in change-orders during construction. The high number could be someone’s attempt to take advantage of a hot market. Worse yet it could their way of saying they don’t want the project but if you’re willing to cough up the big bucks, they’ll try and fit you in. Where is the true cost in all of this?
Without transparency, there is no trust, without trust there can be real problems
The design/build model we call The Home Run Method is an excellent process to determine an accurate cost. The first step in the process is providing you general costs of what your project could be, without hassle. These general costs are available to view on our webpage entitled Home Remodeling Costs.
The cost is important. An understanding of cost is both important to the homeowner and the contractor. For many, discussing money can be an uncomfortable, almost taboo concept. An honest conversation about project cost and investment intention is a crucial step however in finding a mutual fit for both parties. Without transparency, there is no trust, without trust there can be real problems.
The cost is significant. A remodel is no small expense and the stakes are high. An accurate estimate is not something just anyone can provide. There is a process and experience that goes into anticipating the costs of a given renovation. An estimator must look beyond time and materials to get to the real cost of a project. Market trends, age of home, code requirements, level of quality, degree of difficulty and much more must be factored.
The cost is custom. We invest the time with you to create a priority list for your remodeled home. The cost will specifically reflect what you want because the scope of work is detailed and the materials are all spec’d out. In turn, this is a cost for which you’re able and willing to invest. This is a cost that you can count on once construction begins.
